113 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND FRECH, Stephen Charles Stephen was born in Sault Ste. Marie on September 3, 1940. He enlisted on February 1, 1966 and served in Canada as a Gunner, Bombardier, Sergeant and Lieutenant with the 49th FD. S.S.M. Regiment of the Royal Canadian Artillery. He was discharged on July 27, 1979. Stephen has been a member of St. Joseph Islands Legion Branch 374 for twenty-seven years. FUNSTON, John G. John was born on December 21, 1938 in Tara, Ontario. He enlisted on February 14, 1957 and served in Canada and Germany with the No. 1 Air Division, NATO, NORAD and Air Command. His initial trade was as an air frame technician then he remustered to radar technician. He was discharged on October 10, 1980 and has received the Canadian Forces Decoration with Bar. Upon retiring, John built his own home back in his hometown of Tara. He enjoys golfing and sailing in the summer and downhill skiing in the winter. He has been a member of Tara Legion Branch 383 for fifty years. FRENETTE, Louis J. “Lou” Lou was born on April 18, 1938 in Bathurst, New Brunswick and he enlisted in Ottawa on May 5, 1958. He was sent to London, Ontario for the Worsley Barracks Boot Camp with the North Shore 2nd Battalion, Royal Canadian Regiment. Lou got standing order to become a driver in 1961 and served in Cedar Spring, Ipperwash, Meaford, Borden and Petawawa. He served three years in Borden in the Royal Canadian School of Infantry and was promoted to Lance Corporal in 1965. Lou was sent to Germany at Saint York where he lived on the economy in Allagen on the Mohne Sea. He was promoted to full Corporal in 1967, Commando “A” Section with ACP and was there when Russia invaded the Czech Republic. He returned to London, Ontario for leave then went back to Borden to Combat Arm School. He was discharged on October 1969. Lou has been a member of A. C. McCallum Memorial Legion Branch 479 for thirty-eight years.
