137 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HARPER, Clifton W. Clifton was born in Ontario on June 30, 1915. A former school teacher for Northumberland County, Clifton joined the Royal Air Force prior to the outbreak of the war. He saw action in England, the Middle East, Java, Sumatra and Singapore. Squadron Leader Harper was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for distinguished action the Far East during the Battle of Burma when he was reported shot down following air operations. HARRISON, George A. George was born on January 31, 1926 in Hearst, Ontario. He joined the Army on June 24, 1944 and served with the Irish Regiment of Canada, Canadian Infantry Corps, in Canada, United Kingdom, Belgium and Holland. After signing up at Manning Depot in Toronto, Private Harrison missed D-Day due to sickness but he still made it to Ghent, Belgium and Leeuwarden, Holland before his discharge on March 14, 1946. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp. George resides in Kapuskasing where he has been a member of Legion Branch 85 for thirty-seven years. HARRIS, William T. William was born on April 6, 1913 in Port Perry, Ontario. He enlisted in November 1942 and served in Canada from the General List/Infantry until his discharge in April 1946. Major Harris worked in the legal department at Army HQ in Ottawa. After the war, he practiced law in Port Perry until his retirement. William passed away on June 17, 1995.
