189 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MAHON, Lesli J. “Les” Les was born on April 10, 1915 in Star City, Saskatchewan. He joined the Army on July 26, 1940 and served with the Algonquin Regiment, “B” Company, Military Police in Canada, France, Holland and Germany. Discharged in November 1945, Corporal Mahon was awarded the 19391945 Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, the France and Germany Star, the Campaign Star and the War Medal 1939-45. After the war, Les worked for the Kapuskasing Police then was employed with the Spruce Falls Power and Paper Company until his retirement. He was a member of Kapuskasing Legion Branch 85 for thirty-five years until he passed away on November 3, 1985. MALLION, William Caleb William was born on December 2, 1892 in Kent, England. He served in the Army during World War I in England, France and Germany. He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal from Great Britain when he awoke one night in France and detected an enemy platoon approaching. By giving the alarm, he saved the day and members of his group. In World War II, he served in the Home Guard. He was a member of the Fenelon Falls for twelve years before he passed away on September 27, 1967. MAHOOD, Grant Edward Grant was born in Toronto on July 7, 1938. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on March 27, 1957 and served with 407, 416, 427 and 450 Squadrons in Canada, the United States, Norway, Jamaica and Australia. In Canada, he served at these bases: Cold Lake, AB, Moose Jaw, SK, Comox, BC, Chatham, NB, and Petawawa, Centralia and Ottawa, ON. He was an Aero Engine Technician and had an MOT Aircraft Maintenance Engineer’s “Rotary Wing” Licence, endorsed on Bell helicopters. Discharged on May 20, 1987, Grant received the Canadian Forces Decoration 1, the Special Service/NATO Bar and the Queen’s Silver and Diamond Jubilee Medals. Grant has been a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force Association since 1979 and has held many Executive positions. His RCAFA / AFAC awards are: (MSA) Meritorious Service, (LMA) Life Membership, (DSA) Distinguished Service and the Order of Excellence. He is also the recipient of the Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation. Grant has been a member of Pembroke Legion Branch 72 for forty-three years.
