87 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND DAVIS, David E. David was born in 1880 in Glenelg Township. At the age of 19, he left Victoria, British Columbia to go to South Africa where he fought in the Boer War from 1900 to 1902. He remained there for 12 years to work in the diamond mines. He married Martha Elizabeth Smith and he died on December 4, 1950. DAY, Douglas R. Douglas was born on February 2, 1940 in Vilna, Alberta. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy on March 1960 and served in the Atlantic until his discharge in March 1963. Douglas has been a member of Port Perry Legion Branch 419 for forty-two years. DAVIS, Matthew J. Matthew was born on March 2, 1845 in Stoneham, Quebec. He joined the Army and served in the Durham Infantry Company, Volunteer Militia. He participated in the Fenian Raid in 1866 in the Hamilton area and also served with No. 4 Company, 31st Battalion under Captain W. A. Anderson. Matthew passed away on March 19, 1914.
