113 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND FRYER, Kenneth Kenneth was born in Acton, Ontario on February 16, 1925. He served in the Air Force (Regular) in Canada. He was a resident of Acton for many years and was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 197. Kenneth passed away on August 19, 2010. GAMBLE, Roy Allen Roy was born on March 4, 1894, in Toronto, Ontario, to A. Frankin and Annie Gamble. On February 15, 1916, he enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) and joined the 119th Overseas Btn. in Algoma. He was later transferred to the 52 Btn., New Ontario Regiment. Private Roy Allen Gamble died of “accidental injuries” on May 20, 1917. He is buried in the Lapugnoy Cemetery, France and his name is inscribed on the Echo Bay cenotaph east of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. GAGNON (HAY), Katherine Mary “Kay” Kay was born in Espanola, Ontario on June 14, 1918. She joined the Navy as a WREN on April 14, 1943. She trained at HMCS Conestoga in Galt and HMCS Stadacona in Halifax. She was deployed overseas in December 1944 and was stationed at HMCS Niobein Greenock, Scotland until November 1945. From there, she was stationed at Peregrine, Bytown, and HMCS Carleton York until the WRENS were demobilized on February 13, 1946. She served in an actual theatre of war. She was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Sault Ste. Marie Branch 25 for 45 years. Kay passed away on September 13, 2022, at the age of 104.
