123 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND GRAHAM, Leroy Leroy was born in Dyer’s Bay, Ontario on December 10, 1897. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) on January 8, 1917, and served with 234th Battalion during World War I. GRANT, Alexander Walker Alexander was born in Aberdeen, Scotland, on August 9, 1891, and immigrated to Canada in 1911 at the age of twenty. He joined a brother and sister with family in Galt, Ontario. There he worked as a moulder alongside his brother until enlisting in the Army (Regular Force) on September 15, 1914. He was placed in the 1st Battalion Canadian Expeditionary Force of the 1st Brigade, 1st Canadian Division. Along with his battalion, he sailed for England on October 3, 1914, then to France on February 7, 1915. Alex was sent back to England twice for medical treatment. The first time, he had suffered gunshot wounds to his right calf and left foot and then at the Somme, he was shot in the right thigh. In 1918, Alex was granted permission to marry Williamina Robertson, and granted fourteen days leave. On July 4, 1919, Alex was honourably discharged and returned to Galt and married life. Alex passed away on September 1, 1958. GRAHAM, William Henry William was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia on November 8, 1940. He enlisted in the Air Force (Regular) in 1957 and served on the radar lines in Northern Quebec, Lac St. Denis and Morin-Heights, in 1957. He was discharged in 1959. William moved to Ontario in 1985. He is married to Shirley, and they have five children, six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. William is an active five-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Col. Tom Kennedy Branch 582, especially during the Poppy Campaign each year.
