139 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HARRON, John James John was born on October 8, 1885, in Bruce County, Ontario. His only parent listed in his military records is James Harron of Richards Land, St. Joseph Island, Ontario. John was a fire ranger by trade and had prior military service with the 33rd Bat. in Tara, Ontario. He signed up with the 63rd Bat., in Edmonton, Alberta on October 2, 1915, transferred to the 8th Bat. (Manitoba Regt.) and sailed for England on March 23, 1916. On September 28, 1918, while on patrol in France, he was killed instantly when struck on the head with shrapnel. He is buried in Haycourt British Cemetery in France. His name is inscribed on the cenotaph in Richards Landing, St. Joseph Island, Ontario. HARVEY, Howard Howard was born in Port Credit, Ontario on June 7, 1968, and currently lives in London which he has done since 1988. He is currently serving full time in the Army Reserve Force at 31st Service Battalion in London as a Master Corporal fulfilling the role of MSE OP (Trucker). Duties include driving instructor/examiner and road and vehicle supervisor. Howard joined the reserve on December 14, 2004. He had been involved in Op Nanook in 2009 and 2022 (Joint Task Force North). At its core, Op Nanook strengthens the Canadian Armed Forces’ knowledge of this vital region, allows us to work hand-in-hand with our fellow Arctic nations and key allies, and fortifies our close partnerships with federal, territorial, and local communities. At time of writing, Howard is doing pre-deployment training for Op Impact in Kuwait. He is a two-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 176 in Forest, Ontario. HARTFORD, Norman Wilfrid Norman was born in Toronto, Ontario on July 6, 1935. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) in 1953 and served with 3rd Canadian Guards at camps Gagetown, Petawawa, Belle Cartier and Wainwright until his release in 1956. Norman has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion for 51 years, 10 at the Acton Branch 197 where he currently resides.
