161 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HUNTLEY, Ronald B. “Ron” Ron was born on October 10, 1919, in Whitby, Ontario. He joined the Army in 1939 and served with the 11th Armoured Regiment in England, France, Italy, Sicily, Belgium and Holland. Ron was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Uxbridge Branch 170 and a Past President before he passed away on April 4, 1976. IZZARD, Arthur G. Arthur was born on March 24, 1890, in Crowland, England. He enlisted in the 100th Winnipeg Grenadiers on July 15, 1915 and sailed for England on May 20, 1916 on the Empress of Britain. He disembarked at Le Havre, France on August 13, 1916 and served in the 78th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force. Wounded by shrapnel in the left knee at the Regina trench on November 20, 1916, gangrene caused the amputation of his left leg on December 10, 1916. The stump did not heal well and further amputation was done on February 15, 1917, leaving at 5-inch stump. He sailed from Liverpool to Canada on May 11, 1917 on the Hospital Ship Letitia and he convalesced at Toronto, Ontario until his discharge on October 22, 1917. Arthur may have been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Fort Frances Branch before he passed away on December 25, 1958. HYLAND, Arthur Jay Arthur was born in North County, York on February 11, 1956. He joined up in Toronto, Ontario on October 10, 1973, and did his basic training at CFB Cornwallis in Nova Scotia. He trained to be a vehicle tech and served in Canada at Base Petawawa and Base Borden with the RCEME. After his discharge on October 9, 1977, he worked as a Tractor Trailer Operator for 23 years driving across North America as a Long-Haul Driver. He is an eleven-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Tillsonburg Branch 153.
