173 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND KELLY, Joseph Allen Joseph was born in Manchester, England on November 28, 1880. He came to Canada as a farm labourer and worked on a farm in Bluevale, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) in Wroxeter on January 7, 1916, at the age of 36. He joined the 17th Battalion W.O.R. and was with the 161st Battalion. Corporal Joseph Kelly served in France in April 1918 and suffered a gunshot wound to the jaw. He was sent home in May 1919 on the Empress of Britainand was discharged on June 6, 1919. Joseph was a Charter Member of the newly formed Royal Canadian Legion Brussels Branch 218 in October 1931. He served as President in 1940 and was a member for ten years. Joseph resided in Bluevale until 1940. KELM, Rudy Rudy was born in Germany on November 2, 1942. He signed up in 1960 at Woodstock Armory and trained at Wolseley Barracks in London. Rudy spent time at Camp Ipperwash and was a Master Cadet at Banff. After his discharge in 1963, Rudy attended Ryerson and moved to Calgary where he started a construction company. He is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Tillsonburg Branch 153. KELLY, Robert Bernard “Bernie” Bernie was born in Windsor, Ontario on April 30, 1940. He was twenty years old when he joined the Army (Regular Force) in September 1960 in London, Ontario. His basic training was in Shilo, Manitoba. He also spent time in Petawawa, Ontario and was stationed in Germany. In 1962, as a part of NATO, Bernie was a part of the Cuban Missile Crisis. After his discharge in October 1963, the Chrysler Corp was Bernie’s next job for the next 37 years. He joined The Royal Canadian Legion in 1982. As a member of the Legion, Bernie held many positions and was president four times. He is retired and is a proud forty-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 261 in Tecumseh, Ontario.
