191 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND LANGTON, Thomas Thomas was born in Toronto on March 26, 1883, the son of Thomas and Florence (McDonald) Langton. On February 28, 1916, he enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) with the 180th Battalion Canadian Expeditionary Force in Toronto. On his attestation form, he is described as 32 years old and single. He listed his trade as foreman and stated he had no previous military experience. Thomas was commissioned to the rank of lieutenant shortly after joining. He sailed on the SS Olympic to arrive in England on November 21, 1916. After several months of training in England, he landed in France on April 25, 1917, assigned to the 75th Canadian Infantry Battalion. He suffered gunshot wounds in the legs on June 8, 1917, and was returned to Canada for medical treatment. Thomas was discharged on April 6, 1918, and later moved to Coldwater, Ontario. In 1935, he became a founding member of today’s Royal Canadian Legion Coldwater Branch 270 and was later elected as the branch’s very first president. Thomas passed away on June 1, 1935, in Toronto. LAPOINTE, Louis Louis was born in Little Current, Ontario in 1907. He enlisted in the Navy (Reserve Force) onAugust 22, 1942, and served duringWorldWar II at the Battle of Atlantic, France, Germany, Africa, and the Irish Sea. He sailed all his career as a marine engineer before and after the war on the Great Lakes. He spent most of his time overseas on corvettes and frigates at sea. His ship, the Camrose, was involved in Operation Torch and saving 129 torpedoed men on a Mediterranean run. He was discharged on December 10, 1945, and received the 1939-1945 Star, Atlantic Star and Clasp, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, War Medal 1939-1945, and France and Germany Star. He married an Irish bride, Susan O’Hagan, and had five children. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Sault Ste. Marie Branch 25 for twenty years. Louis passed away on December 23, 1981. LAPOINTE, Jean-Marc Jean-Marc was born in Trois-Rivières, Quebec on May 7, 1952. He enlisted in the Navy, (Regular Force) in July 1970. He served in Montreal; 437 Sqn Trenton; HMCS Huron and Gatineau; Ville de Quebec; St. John’s; Senneterre; Borden; Kingston; St. Jean; Alert in 1989-1990, Gulf in 2002 and on the High Seas. He was released in February 2009. Jean-Marc was issued Canadian Decoration (CD) with two clasps for thirty-plus years of service, South West Asia Service Medal (SWASM) with Afghanistan Bar, Special Service Medal with bars for ALERT and NATO, plus the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal. Jean-Marc is an eightyear member of The Royal Canadian Legion Angus Branch 499 and has been residing in Angus from 2005 to present.
