43 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BINN, Mathew William Skean Mathew was born in St. Thomas, Ontario on September 26, 1976. He signed up in Brantford, Ontario on April 17, 1997, and served with 3RCR, 4 Wing Borden, 4ESR, CFSME, Trenton in Canada, Bosnia, Afghanistan, United Arab Emirates, Nepal, South Sudan, and Democratic Republic of the Congo. He was released in May 2020 at the rank of Captain. Mathew received the Gen. Campaign StarSouthwest Asia, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, NATO Medal for former Yugoslavia, Operation Service MedalHumanitas, Canadian Peacekeeping Medal, Canadian Forces Decoration with Clasp. He is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Tillsonburg Branch 153. BLACK, James James was born in Bellshill, Scotland onApril 15, 1912. He signed up inWalkerton in October 1939 and trained in Listowel, Petawawa, Tracadie NB and southern England from 1940 to 1944. He sailed to France on July 12, 1944. James fought with the 7th Medium Regiment, RCA through Caen towards Falaise. He was one of three killed by friendly fire from RAF bombers on August 14, 1944, in Cintheaux, France. He drove a truck that pulled a medium gun and its crew. He saved the truck and gun when he was hit and killed at around noon on August 14. BIRD, Robert Wilbert Robert was born in Hamilton, Ontario on December 5, 1893. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) on May 14, 1918, and served with 1st Depot BattalionWOR, 4th Res Battalion in England during World War I. He was released on July 6, 1919. Robert lived in Morris Township his whole life and married Emma Mann. They raised two daughters, Dorothy and Jean, and worked hard making a living farming. They eventually came to own three separate farms. Robert passed away in September 1975, and Emma in 1988. Both daughters are also now deceased.
