49 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BOWEN, Wayne Lawrence Wayne was born in Acton, Ontario in April 1945. He enlisted in the Navy (Regular Force) in the mid-1960s and was stationed in Canada at Cornwallis and Shearwater. He served in Ireland and in Sweden until his release in 1967. Wayne was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion and passed away in 2012. BRENT, William Hubert William was born in Waterford, Ontario on December 5, 1892. He enlisted in the Navy (Regular Force) on July 16, 1915, in Saskatchewan with the 46th Saskatchewan Battalion and served at The Somme and Ypres. He was transferred to the 13th Battalion Royal Highlanders on June 10, 1916, and went overseas to France. On June 23, 1916, he moved to the front line. He was wounded on September 5, 1916, and moved to hospital on September 11, 1916. He returned to the front and was wounded again on Pozieres Ridge by artillery fire, losing his left eye and sustaining serious damage to his face. He was medically discharged on June 6, 1917, and returned to Amulet, Saskatchewan. He took up position with the Singer Sewing Machine Company and worked in the prairies for several years. He was promoted to their head office in Toronto where he worked until retirement. His grandson provided this information and William had told him that an investment made in England several years ago was the start up capital for the family business Brent Quarries in Port Carling, Ontario. William passed away in 1975 and was interred in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto. BRENT, Stanley Edwin “Stan” Stanley was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on September 23, 1924. He enlisted in the Navy (Regular Force) on June 5, 1941, and served in the North Atlantic on HMCS Esador. He sailed from Halifax to England to protect shipping from submarine attacks. He was released from service on July 5, 1946. After the war, Stan was married to Norma and eventually purchased a marina and hardware store in Bala in 1975. They had two daughters, Barbara and Patti. Stan and his wife were members of The Royal Canadian Legion Bala Branch 424 for thirty years and the Curling Club as well as the Snowmobile Club. He passed away on December 1, 2006.
