53 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BRYDON, Robert Kenneth “Bob” Bob was born on May 27, 1939, in Kitchener, Ontario, to William and Mary (Cowan) Brydon along with siblings, Donald and William. He attended Parkway Public School and Kitchener Collegiate Institute. At the age of nineteen, in 1958, Robert enlisted with the Regular Forces and was posted with the RCR’s—Royal Canadian Regiment. During his time in the service, he was in Germany for nine years with the 3 Mech Commandos, played hockey with the RCR’s “Royals”, got married to Doreen Marie, and did a United Nations tour in Egypt. In 1979, after 21 years, Master Corporal Robert Brydon took his honorable discharge and returned to civilian life. Doreen and Bob raised three children: Lawrence, William and Mary Lynn. Bob took up truck driving and finished his working career as a security guard (Commissionaire), in his spare time played sports and tinkered with wood working projects. Bob was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Dorchester Branch from 1973 to 2007 and the New Hamburg Branch 532 from 2007 to 2017. Robert Kenneth Brydon passed away on October 16, 2017, and is buried in the Riverside Cemetery in New Hamburg. BUFFAM, Lynwood Harcourt Lynwood was born in Carleton Place, Ontario on March 11, 1925. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) on April 1, 1942, with the Lanark and Renfrew Scottish Regiment, C.A. to serve during World War II. He was the last of six brothers to enlist. Lynwood proceeded overseas in September 1942. He declared his birth date was March 11, 1925, he used the wrong birthdate to join his four brothers overseas. In March 1944, he was posted to the 4th Battalion Perth Regiment and was discharged on February 14, 1946. He received the 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-1945, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Lynwood passed away on November 20, 1992. BRYMER, W. J. R. “Sammy” Sammy was born in 1923. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) on September 22, 1941, and served as a signalman with the RCCS in the British Isles, France and Germany. He was discharged on February 16, 1946. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star and War Medal 1939-1945. Sammy was a 41-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Milton Wesley Branch 426. He was president of Branch 426 in 1960, an executive member for six years and was a Life Member. Sammy passed away on April 22, 1995. He had been a resident of Newmarket, Ontario since 1960.
