65 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CAMBRIDGE, Gary Gary was born on July 3, 1957, in London, Ontario. He joined the Armoured Corps Reserved First Hussars in May 1975. He attained the rank of Corporal and transferred to the Regular Force in November 1978. He completed Armoured Crewman training in April/May 1979 and badged Lord Strathcona’s Horse, posted to Armoured School CFB Gagetown Headquarters Squadron wheeled troop. He was posted to CFB Lahr, Royal Canadian Dragoons for a four-year posting. He trained as a Leopard C1 tank driver, did two years driving Leopard, crewed as a loader/operator. He transferred to Headquarters Squadron RCD and posted to Regular Support Staff, Elgin Regiment, St. Thomas Ontario, promoted to the rank of Corporal. He did a Combat Leaders Course in November 1982 in CFB Wainwright, Alberta and was promoted to Master Corporal. He was posted to Royal Canadian Dragoons, CFB Lahr in June 1985 B Squadron 3 Troop. He crew-commanded Leopard C1, Ldr/Op for Troop Officer. He was honourably released in October 1987 and joined the Armoured Corps Reserve First Hussars in September 1995. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in September 1996. He was released from the reserves in March 2000 and received the CD and the SSM. CAMBRIDGE, John John was born on September 8, 1906, in Bermondsey, England. He was part of the Essex Scottish Militia Regiment Reserve in 1931 (Windsor, Ontario) and served for eleven years until 1942. He was a Sergeant in the First Battalion and Quartermaster-Sergeant of the Second Battalion. John was commissioned into Active Army in 1942 to the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps. He took an officer training course in Brockville, Ontario and was posted to London, Ontario (Central Mechanization Depot) as a Lieutenant. He was promoted to Captain after 2-3 years. In December 1948, Major Cambridge was posted to Yukon Territory as Senior Ordnance Officer on the Northwest (Alaskan) Highway Project, Whitehorse and then posted after three years to Montreal. In 1954, he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and posted as Commander/Senior Ordnance Officer of the 17 Regional Ordnance Depot in Edmonton. In 1955, half the Depot burnt down, then rebuilt. During his last year of service, he was posted to the Haggersville Ordnance Vehicle Park in Ontario. John retired as a Lieutenant Colonel at the age of 52. He passed away on March 27, 2003. CAMBRIDGE, Jack Jack was born on July 18, 1924, in London, Ontario. He was a member of the Naval Cadets, HMCS Hunter, Windsor Ontario from 1937 to 1940. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy (Regular Force) in 1941 (HMCS Hunter) at the age of seventeen. He was engaged in active service duringWorldWar II in NorthAtlantic, English Channel, and Baltic Sea from 1941 to 1949. He served aboard the HMCS St. Francis, HMCS Outremont, HMCS Haida, and HMCS MicMac. He was onboard the HMCS Haida in July 1947 when the HMCS MicMac was in a collision in Halifax Harbour. Jack received his honourable discharge after eight years of service. Jack passed away on April 17, 2014.
