71 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CAMPBELL, William Harold William was born on August 18, 1919, in Richards Landing, a small community on St. Joseph Island, east of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, to Sarah and John J. Campbell. His enrollment document states that his trade was farmer. On April 14, 1941, he enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) and joined the Governor General’s Horse Guards of the 3rd Armoured Regiment. William was killed in action on September 24, 1944, while serving in Italy. He is buried in the Cesena Cemetery near Ravenna, Italy. His name is inscribed on the Richards Landing cemetery. CARRUBBA, Oliver Michael Oliver was born in Toronto, Ontario on November 7, 1975. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces with 2 Combat Engineer Regiment, CFB Petawawa from 1995 to 2007. He served two tours in Afghanistan between the years of 2003-2004 and 2006-2007, along with a tour in Bosnia in 1998. He received a Peacekeeping Medal, medals for his various tours in Afghanistan and Bosnia, along with a Commander and Chief commendations awards. Oliver retired from the service in 2007. He is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 139 where he volunteers during the Poppy Campaign. A true soldier and veteran for life, Sgt. Carrubba holds values of integrity, honesty and commitment in his everyday civilian life and in the upbringing of his son. He was always an honourable and truly dedicated soldier to his country and fellow soldiers. He wore his heart on his sleeve in supporting those in active duty and retired. He lost many friends, both young and old, and remembers them always, especially during the annual Remembrance ceremonies at Cenotaph in Streetsville or Mississauga Square. He received a certificate of recognition from the City of Mississauga on June 10, 2015, while surrounded by family, coworkers and the City Council. CAPERCHIONE, Gino Gino was born in Humberstone, Ontario on December 24, 1924. He enlisted in the Navy (Regular Force) in March 1943 on HMCS Outremont and served in Canada and on the High Seas during World War II. He was part of D-Day and Murmansk Ops and was discharged on December 5, 1945. He also served in the Army (Regular Force) with the RCE from 1954 until his discharge in 1957. Gino received the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, War Medal 1939-1945, Atlantic Star, Croix de Guerre, and Russian Commemorative Medal. After his service, he did construction work and also worked as a mailman. He loved bowling and hockey and other sports. Gino has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 56 for 57 years. He has been a resident of Port Colborne since 1924.
