73 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CAYER, Edouard Joseph Edouard was born in Hull, Quebec on September 25, 1914. He joined the Army (Regular Force) with Canadian Army Service Corps on September 6, 1939, and served as a Corporal in England, France, Belgium and Germany. He was discharged on October 25, 1945, and received the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and the War Medal 1939-1945. He returned to Ottawa to marry Laurette Dupuis. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 462 and resided in Ottawa. Edouard passed away on May 26, 1969. CHRISTIE, John Douglas John was born in Port Perry, Ontario on February 18, 1924, to Grant and Lillian Christie. In February 1940, he decided to enlist in the Air Force (Regular Force). After four years of training, he was sent to England in the autumn of 1944 where he served in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Leading Aircraftsman. In a letter to his mother, he said he had not seen white bread since leaving home, and the tea was very good, but the milk was not. On October 17, 1945, John was discharged. Once home, he continued to work in the automotive parts and machinery business. In 1963, he married Yvonne McFadyen, and they had one son named Peter. John passed away on March 16, 1991, after living in the Manchester area (near Port Perry) his entire life. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion in Port Perry. CHESNICK, Paul Paul was born on November 1, 1919, in Stornaway, Saskatchewan. At the age of 22, he left the family farm and joined the Army on October 28, 1941. His training was in Winnipeg, Manitoba and he belonged to a number 10 District Depot. After training, Paul went to England. His unit saw action in France and Belgium. After his release on October 27, 1945, Paul moved to Windsor. Paul and his brother opened a restaurant. After that, Paul went to work at Motor Products for the next ten years. Paul was married and raised five boys. He went to work for Canada Post until his retirement. Paul passed away on December 12, 2010, at the age of 91.
