89 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CROWDER, Oren W. Oren was born on June 7, 1888, to George and Fannie A. (Ressor) Wenworth of Jocelyn Township on St. Joseph Island east of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. He was an engineer by trade. On January 13, 1916, he enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) and joined the 119th Overseas Battalion. He then transferred to the 97th Battalion and lastly to the 124th Canadian Battalion Pioneers. He died of shrapnel wounds to the back on June 28, 1917, near the city of Lens, France. He is buried in the Zouave Valley Cemetery in France. His name is inscribed on the Richards Landing Cenotaph, St. Joseph Islands. CURRIE, J. Archie J. Archie Currie was born in 1923 in Tobermory, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) and served with the Grey & Simcoe Foresters Tank Corp. He passed away in 1987. CUNNINGHAM PATTERSON, Mary Mary was born on March 31, 1921, in Glasgow, Scotland. She joined the Army (Regular Force) on January 1, 1942, at the age of 21. While in England, Mary served with the British Army Auxiliary Territorial Service during World War II. She was a driver for an Army Major who commanded three Anti-Aircraft Batteries in London. She met her husband in Scotland and they were married in 1943. After being wounded, Mary’s husband was sent back to Canada. Mary was given a compassionate discharge on December 28, 1944, and came to Canada. The family settled in Windsor, Ontario. Mary worked as a cosmetologist until her retirement. She enjoyed gardening and reading. Mary passed away on March 8, 1978.
