95 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND DEAN, Lloyd S.D. Lloyd was born in Lindsay, Ontario on January 1, 1922. He enlisted in the Air Force (Regular) on August 13, 1942, and served in the Royal Canadian Air Force for 27 years. His service was in Germany and in Canada and he received the Canadian Forces Decoration (CD). Lloyd enjoyed the Friday evening dinners at Branch 582 of The Royal Canadian Legion where he had been a member for 48 years. On March 22, Lloyd was presented with a beautiful quilt from “Quilts of Valour Canada”. Lloyd passed away in December 2022. DENBOW, John Cleveland “Cleve” John was born in Brussels, Ontario on February 20, 1892. His mother died when he was six years old and later moved with his father to Manitoba. His father was killed a few years later in a runaway accident and “Cleve” was returned to Brussels to live with his Aunt and Uncle Carter. He learned to be a Barber, and opened his own business. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) in Brussels on October 12, 1915, and went overseas in 1916. He served in the 13th Battalion Canadian Infantry (Quebec Regiment) and later transferred to the Highlanders and was sent to France. He was wounded twice before his final battle. The Battle defending the Amiens and surrounding area were the scenes of heavy fighting. In July, the Germans held the area but the Canadian Corps cleared the area early on August 8, 1918. Private Denbow was killed early in the conflict on the 8th. He is remembered with honour at the Hangard Wood British Cemetery. DEAN, Orville Orville was born in Tobermory, Ontario in 1924. He served in the Army in England and in France during World War II.
