105 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND DAVIDSON, James “Jim” Jim was born in Huntsville, Ontario on December 6, 1923. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army in August 1941 and served as a sniper with the 48th Highlanders Scout Platoon in Italy, France, Holland, and Germany during World War II. The boat carrying Jim and his regiment to Italy was bombed and never made the landing on Sicily, it was diverted to North Africa and awaited repairs to re-join their platoon in Italy. He was discharged in March 1946. He has been to Dominion Convention on twelve occasions and has met the Queen on at least six different occasions when she was Colonel in Chief of the 48th Highlanders. He served as a drill sergeant for the 48th Highlanders Drill Team for about 4 years. Jim has been a member of Harry Wray Legion Branch 302 for 48 years. DAVIS, Henry C. Henry was born on January 16, 1921 in Wiarton, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on June 9, 1940 and served with the Highland Light Infantry of Canada in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. Sergeant Davis was discharged on October 9, 1945. After the war, he worked in London before returning to Tobermory where he served as postmaster for almost thirty years. He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defense Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, and the 1939-45 War Medal. He was a member of Tobermory Legion Branch 290. Henry passed away on June 21, 2009. DAVIDSON, Murray W. Murray was born on August 16, 1926 in Gravenhurst, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy on August 16, 1944 but the war was in its final stages in August 1944 so he stayed until discharge from the Navy and joined the Army in September 1948. He served in the High Seas for the end of the war and then in Korea during the Korean War. After discharge with 25 years’ service, Murray returned to Gravenhurst and worked at Browns’ Beverages as well as for the Commissionaires. Murray has been a member of Harry Wray Legion Branch 302 for 50 years.
