109 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND DESBIENS, Arthur N. Arthur was born on December 15, 1925 in Strickland, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on November 23, 1944 and served with the Royal Canadian Infantry 1st Division in England, France and Germany during World War II. He was discharged on November 28, 1946. Private Desbiens was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, the Victory Medal and the France and Germany Star. After the war, he returned home to work on his dad’s farm before moving to Kapuskasing, ON where he was employed by a local paper company for 35 years. Arthur has been a member of the Kapuskasing Legion Branch 85 for 63 years. DESCHAMP, Louis J. Louis was born in North Sydney, NS on June 23, 1926. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on May 27, 1941. After basic training, he was sent on a trades training course in London, from there to Barrie Field for further training. He arrived in England in 1942 and was hospitalized in late 1943. After recovering he was sent to a Re-Enforcement Unit and on June 12, 1944 arrived in France. In July 1944, he was posted to 5 C.I.B. Workshop where he repaired equipment used by the infantry. After the war he returned to Canada for the Pacific Theatre. In 1953, he returned to Germany with NATO and in 1965 he joined the UNEF on the Gaza Strip. In 1968, he joined Canadian Armed Forced Advisory and Training Team in Tanzania. He was discharged on May 25, 1977. Louis has been a member of Victory Legion Branch 317 for 47 years and has served as Past President. DESBIENS, Remi D. Remi was born on March 7, 1987 in Ottawa, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army in September 2005 and served with the Royal 22nd Regiment in Afghanistan and the United States on peacekeeping tours. Private Desbiens was discharged on September 18, 2008 and was awarded the South-West Asia Service Medal – Afghanistan.
