131 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND ETMANSKIE, Peter H. Peter was born on October 6, 1892 in Barry’s Bay, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on March 14, 1916 serving in England and France during World War I. He joined the 130th Overseas Battalion and on October 9, 1916 was transferred to the 12th battalion before being transferred again, to the 3rd Battalion this time, on November 12, 1916. He was wounded in an armed conflict in England and spent months in hospitals before he was discharged and returned to Canada. Following his discharge on December 7, 1919, he worked for the Ministry of Lands and Forests as a forest ranger. He was awarded the King George VI Medal and the Victory Medal 1914-18. He was a member of Barry’s Bay Legion Branch 406. Peter passed away on May 29, 1974. EVANS, Charles H. Charles was born on January 7, 1924 in Chapleau, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on October 1, 1944 and served with the East Moor No.6 Bomber Group in England during World War II. After the war, he volunteered to stay behind and help dispose of bombs and ammunition in England. He was discharged on April 23, 1946. Charles has been a member of Bowmanville Legion Branch 178 for 66 years. EVANS, Amy L. Amy was born on December 3, 1922 in Toronto, ON. She enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on February 24, 1943 and served with the Royal Canadian Air Force Women’s Division during World War II. She received her basic training in Rockcliffe and her trade training at Havergale College in Toronto. Amy was posted to London, England where she served in the Reception Depot in Bournemouth and Record Office Knights Bridge in London. She was billeted in Beckham, Kent with a Private family when a buzz bomb landed on the house across the street from where she was staying. She was discharged and returned home in October 1945. She was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, the Defense Medal and the 1939-45 War Medal.
