135 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND FENTON Thomas W. Thomas was born in Sheffield, England on December 29, 1899. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on January 25, 1916 and served with the 134th Overseas Battalion (48th Highlanders) in France and Flanders. He embarked for Britain on August 8, 1916 to provide reinforcements to the Canadian Corps in the field until March 7, 1918 when its personnel were absorbed by the 12th Reserve Battalion. After the war, he became Blenheim’s Chief of Police, and later looked after juveniles in trouble in Chatham, ON. He was a member of Blenheim Legion Branch 185. Thomas passed away on May 30, 1955. FENTON, William H. William was born on August 8, 1924 in Blenheim, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy on January 18, 1943 and served on HMCS Chaudière in the North Atlantic, Bay of Biscay and the English Channel during World War II. In February 1944, William was assigned to the Escort Group C2 based in Derry. He was discharged on November 14, 1945 and joined Blenheim Legion Branch 85. William passed away on January 17, 1995. FENTON, Walter G. Walter was born on September 3, 1917. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on August 29, 1949 and served as an air frame mechanic during World War II. Corporal Fenton worked mostly in PEI servicing planes at the British Commonwealth Air Training Bases in the province like the Bombing and Gunnery School at Mount Pleasant, the Service Flying Training School at Summerside, and the Air Navigation School ad General Reconnaissance School at Charlottetown. He was discharged on June 27, 1945 and was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the War Medal 1939-45. He was a member of Ray Lawson Legion Branch 28. Walter passed away in March 1962.
