139 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND FERRIS, Stanley A. Stanley was born on December 6, 1911 in Turkey Point, ON to Clarence Edkar Ferris and Elora Jackson. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army in 1939 and served with the Royal Canadian Artillery 41st Battalion in the United Kingdom, Italy and Western Europe. He was discharged in 1946 and returned to Canada where he married Mary Wheeler. After the war, he worked at various jobs around Simcoe such as guiding the Turkey Point marsh, Simcoe Leaf Tobacco, the Department of Highways and was a long time steward at the Army, Navy and Air Force, Unit 255 club rooms in Simcoe. He was a member of Simcoe Legion Branch 79. Stanley passed away on September 25, 1997 and is buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Simcoe. FINDLEY, William G. William was born on May, 5, 1925 in Beachville, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army in May 1941. He served with the 7th Medium Regiment, 97th Battery of the Canadian Artillery in England, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany during World War II. He was part of a Guard of Honour for King George VI, Queen Elizabeth and Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret on July 1, 1942 which escorted them from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey for the Dominion Day celebrations. He was discharged in March 1946 and was a Mines Rescue worker in Wales before returning to Canada. He taught driver education in Eglin, Oxford and Norfolk counties for 44 years. He was a member of Varnavair Legion Branch 153 for fifteen years and served as President, 1st Vice President, Youth Education Co-Chair, and Sergeant at Arms for many years. He is a recipient of the Order of Glendale Award, Tillsonburg Military History Club Local Hero Award, Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, and Deputy Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation Award. William passed away on November 2, 2013. FINBOW, Douglas R. Douglas was born in Ispwich, Sussex, England on November 23, 1921. He joined the Royal Canadian Army in 1939 and served with the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa as a machine gun specialist in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany during World War II. He was discharged in 1945 and was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and bar, the 1939-45 War Medal, the Defense Medal and the Canadian Medal for Efficient Service. He married in 1947 and had four children. Douglas has been a member of Uxbridge Legion Branch 170.
