151 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND FURLONG, Joseph R. Joseph was born in Grand Falls, NL on December 18, 1925. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army in February 1944 and served with the Nova Scotia Highlanders as a machine gunner in England, Holland, and Germany during World War II. He stayed in Varel, Germany after the war as part of the army of occupation until his discharged in 1946. He joined the Army again in July 1951 with the intention of serving in Korea. While he was on leave, the majority of his unit shipped out to Korea, leaving a few men behind. Instead of going there, he was sent to Churchill, MB to assist with road construction. He was discharged for the second time in July 1954. Joseph has been a member of Stratford Legion Branch 8 for over fifty years. GALBRAITH, Lloyd Wilbert Lloyd was born on April 22, 1943 in Mendemoya, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on June 9, 1960 and served as a TPT Operator in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps. He was discharged on June 18, 1963 and was recognized for marksmanship. Lloyd has been a member of Gore Bay Legion Branch 514 for 11 years. GALBRAITH, Alvin C. Alvin was born on April 1, 1923 in Coldwater, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on November 6, 1942 and served with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in Great Britain, France and Holland during World War II. Corporal Galbraith was in the Netherlands just after the liberation. He was trained as a radio operator. After returning from the War, Alvin married and settled in Coldwater and worked as an auto mechanic. He was a member of Coldwater Legion Branch 270. Alvin passed away on August 16, 1987.
