171 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND GRIEVE, John Gordon Gordon was born on November 13, 1919 in Port Elgin, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on June 2, 1941 and served with the Royal Canadian Ordinance Corps, 3rd Division in England during World War II. He was discharged on September 2, 1944 and was sent home from England after contracting polio. He was assured that he would spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair but recovered sufficiently from back and leg paralysis and returned to the Saugeen Township to farm. He was a member of Port Elgin Legion Branch 340. Gordon passed away on May 6, 1981. HALL, Arthur Arthur was born in London, England on July 26, 1908. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army in February 1943 and served with the Royal Engineers 262 Field Regiment during World War II. He was transferred to the Royal Winnipeg Rifles just before D-Day. Both of his legs were crushed in an accident and he was sent home to Scotland where he served until 1946. Arthur passed away in 1987 at the age of 79. GUY, William George Franklin William was born on July 27, 1897 in Wentworth County, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on March 10, 1916 and served with 13th Platoon, D Company, 119th Overseas Battalion; he transferred to 58th Canadian Battalion upon arriving to England. William saw action in Britain and France, and received gunshot wounds to the chest and right knee on September 11, 1918. Private Guy was discharged on July 4, 1919 and received the British War Medal and the Victory Medal. After the war, he returned to farming on Manitoulin Island. William passed away on August 2, 1973.
