179 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HATT, Albert Albert was born on July 22, 1920 in Lion’s Head, ON. He joined the Royal Canadian Army and served with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps in England and Holland during World War II. He was a driver for the Canadian Hospital Service, transporting wounded soldiers to field hospitals in the vicinity. In 1973, he went back to Almelo, after 28 years, to visit the Derksen family where he had been a resident for several months. He was a member of Lion’s Head Legion Brach 202 for 20 years. Albert passed away on March 17, 1988. HATT, John David “J.D.” J.D. was born on January 2, 1939 in Lion’s Head, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on December 12, 1956 and served with the 1st Battalion of the Canadian Guards in Germany and Cyprus. He spent three years in training in CFB Petawawa and, in 1959, was part of the Peace Keeping Force in Germany. While stationed in Germany, he met his future wife, Gerda, and they eventually returned to Canada in 1962 where J.D. was assigned to CFB Picton. In 1964, he was part of the Cyprus Peace Keeping Special Services Force, Operation Snowgoose. J.D. returned to Canada in 1965 and retired from the armed forces. He received the Canadian Peace Keeping Medal. HATT, Georgina “Ina” Ina was born in Newcastle, England on December 25, 1925. She enlisted in the British Army in 1942 and served with the Royal Army Service Corps in England during World War II. She married a Canadian soldier on November 23, 1943 and came to Canada after the war to live in Lion’s Head, ON where she raised her family. She was a member of Lion’s Head Legion Branch 202 for 60 years and served as the 1st President of the Ladies Auxiliary in Lions Head. Ina passed away on March 1, 2011.
