181 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HATT, John Malcolm “Mac” Mac was born on February 6, 1912 in Lion’s Head, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on July 6, 1942. On September 16, 1942, he was assigned to Camp Borden and on October 22 he was posted to the 2nd Corp Tank Transporter of the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps. After the death of his infant daughter, he was granted an 11 day leave and moved his family to Wiarton, ON. On July 22, 1943, Mac left for the war effort in Europe and served in France and Holland. Following his discharge on March 28, 1945, Mac returned to Canada in February after 44 months of service and was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defense Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and the War Medal 1939-45. He was a member of Lion’s Head Legion Branch 202 for 36 years. Mac passed away on January 14, 1986. HATT, Wesley F. Wesley was born in Lion’s Head, ON in 1930. He joined the Royal Canadian Army in 1954 and served with the 1st Canadian Guard for two peacekeeping tours in Germany. He was discharged in 1963 and returned to Canada and moved to Edmonton, AB. Wesley passed away on March 22, 1992. HATT, Walter E. Walter was born in Lion’s Head, ON in 1922. He joined the Royal Canadian Army in 1942 and served as a dispatch rider in Italy and Europe during World War II. He lost a kidney in a bike accident in Italy. Following his discharge in 1945, he was a lighthouse keeper at Cape Croker and eventually moved to Edmonton, AB where he worked in the construction business. Walter passed away on June 6, 1974.
