183 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HATT, Wilfred “Bill” Bill was born on July 14, 1888 in Lion’s Head, ON. He joined the Royal Canadian Army in 1914 and was sent to France soon after where he joined the 16th Battalion (Canadian Scottish) at Vimy Ridge and served under Colonel C.W. Peck of British Columbia. He was never wounded but was exposed to poison gas. After the war, Bill sold cars in Wiarton and from there he, with his brother France and later Bill Cox, operated the White Rose Garage and Service Station. Eventually, he became the sole owner of the business and operated it as the Bayview Garage. He was a member of Wiarton Legion Branch 208. Bill passed away on June 8, 1957. HEALEY, Douglas R. Douglas was born on June 23, 1923 in Maple, ON. He joined the Royal Canadian Army in 1943 and served with the Lincoln and Welland Regiment in Holland and Germany during World War II. He was a member of Warriner Lodge 75 Port Perry and Port Perry Legion Branch 419. Douglas passed away on January 8, 2010. HAYNES, Norman A. Norman was born on June 21, 1922 in Toronto, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on December 9, 1941 and served with the No. 10 Bomber, Reconnaissance Corps as a mechanic during World War II. Norman was an air force mechanic and flew in B24 Bombers from Canada’s East Coast and served in Coastal Command. He was discharged on November 30, 1945. Norman has been a member of Highland Creek Legion Branch 258 for 12 years.
