189 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HEATHER, Stanley Stanley was born on June 5, 1923 in Toronto, ON. He enrolled in the Galt Aircraft School in 1941 and trained as an air frame mechanic. He transferred to aircrew and did a tour of operations with Bomber Command with No 78 Squadron RAF as an air gunner. Post war, he served in the Royal Canadian Air Force Auxiliary with No 2424 Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron in Hamilton, ON as SPEC/FTR controller. He was discharged on November 22, 1945. Stanley has been a member of Fort York Legion Branch 165 for 18 years. HOCHU, Roland J. A. Roland was born in Montreal, QC on July 21, 1923. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on September 24, 1941 joining the Fusilier de Mont Réal Regiment in Sorel, QC where he received basic training and was sent to Farnham, QC for his advanced training. Because he was bilingual, he was ported to the Royal Corps of Signals and trained as a linesman before going back to a motorcycle dispatch rider. He was then transferred to Halifax where he joined the troop ship Queen Mary and sailed to Greenock, Scotland and from there he was sent to a Signal Holding Training Unit in England. He also completed the Advance Dispatch Rider course after which he was posted to the field for experience. Before the Invasion of Normandy he was posted to the Fourth Armoured Division Signals. They crossed the English Channel to St. Aubin and from there fought their way to Germany. Halfway to Germany, he hit a Sherman Tank and was put out of action for a month. Roland has been a member of Cobourg Legion Branch 133 for 68 years. HOBAN, Patrick L. Patrick was born in Beauséjour, MB on September 10, 1922. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on September 6, 1940 and served with Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. He fought in the Black Forest in Germany and was part of the Liberation of Holland. Patrick received the France and Germany Star, the Defense Medal, the 1939-45 War Medal, and the Canadian Forces Decoration with Clasp. He ended his military career in November 1968 as a Warrant Officer, then entered into the Public Service Department of National Defense where he worked until November 1983 and was awarded the Long Service Medal for forty years of service. Patrick passed away on March 27, 2003.
