193 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HOLTBY, Murray P. Murray was born on August 6, 1919 in Manchester, ON. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 and served in England as a Flight Lieutenant during World War II. After his discharge in 1945, he attended the Ontario Agriculture College in Guelph, ON and became a successful dairy famer for 50 years. He was a member of Port Perry Legion Branch 419. Murray passed away on October 29, 1998. HRABI, Joe Joe Hrabi was born in Esterhazy, SK in 1924. At age 18, he joined the Regina Rifles. He took basic training in Nova Scotia and Camp Borden, ON, then bren gun carrier training for 12 weeks in Woodstock and London, ON. He was sent to Belgium preparing for action and from there to Holland, where he trained to use a flame thrower on the carrier. Six weeks later he went into action as a bren gun carrier driver. In December 1944, he helped liberate the town of Warkin in Holland. He stayed for one year of occupation until his discharge in May 1946. Upon his return to Canada, he moved to Toronto, married and had three children. He created his own masonry veneer business “Original Facings Ltd,” which he retired from in 1981. He now resides at his self-built home on Kahshe Lake near Gravenhurst, ON at the healthy age of 90. HOLTBY, William Byron Byron was born on January 26, 1922 in Port Perry, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on August 10, 1942 and served with the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps as a Staff Sergeant during World War II. He was an instructor for the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps and travelled across Canada. Following his discharge on October 1, 1946, he continued to work on the family farm which he took over in 1948. He was awarded the 1939-45 War Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. Byron passed away on May 11, 1994.
