19 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND ABBOTT, William M. William was born in Carnduff, SK on May 16, 1925. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on August 16, 1943 and served with the 12th District Depot in England, Belgium, and Holland during World War II. He was accepted in the No. 2 Canadian Army University course at Queen’s University in Kingston. After successfully completing the “43-44” term, he selected the Artillery as his service. He had his training at Petawawa and Camp Borden as well as CARU in England and qualified as driver operator. He then joined the 90th Battery, 1st Anti-Tank Regiment in Holland. In June 1945, William volunteered for service in the Pacific theatre. He completed his service as a drive in the transport section of a Repatriation Camp in England and was discharged on May 15, 1946. William has been a member of Wyoming Legion Branch 388 for 40 years. ADAMSON, Laurence D. Laurence was born on July 26, 1926 in Ottawa, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in July 1944 and served on the HMCS Cornwallis and HMCS Middlesex in the North Atlantic during World War II. He was discharged on April 18, 1946. His medals include the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the 1939-45 War Medal, and the Atlantic Star. He was a member of Sir Sam Hughes Legion Branch 67 for 18 years. Laurence passed away on December 16, 2009. ADAMS, Jay W. Jay was born on March 30, 1920 in Ridgeway, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy on July 23, 1941 and served with the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve in the High Seas and Scotland during World War II. He was discharged on November 9, 1945 and went on to become a lighthouse keeper at Point Albino before serving in the Ontario Provincial Police in the Essex community for 32 years. He was a member of Essex Legion Branch 201 for 55 years. Jay passed away on July 22, 2001.
