23 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND ANDERSON, Lawrence C. “Lorne” Lorne was born on August 7, 1922 in Parry Sound, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on August 27, 1941 and was sent to Souris, MB for training before being sent to Mont Joli, QC. He was then sent to England where he joined a crew. In May 1944, Lorne joined No. 61 Squadron and served with them until August 1944. During his service, he completed 35 bombing trips and flew for 235 hours and was awarded Pilot Officer Commission. On their last bombing trip to Darmstadt, Germany the bomb bay doors would not open and the crew had to syphon six gallons of oil from the turret to open them. He was discharged on April 24, 1945. Lorne has been a member of Sudbury Legion Branch 76 for 65 years. ANDREWS, Lorne F. Lorne was born on September 13, 1913 in Belleville, ON. He enlisted on July 25, 1942 and served as an electrical artificer from 1942 to 1945 with the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve during World War II. He saw active service on the HMCS Cornwallis, HMCS Stadacona and HMCS Scotian before being discharged on September 4, 1945. After the war, he returned to Hamilton, ON with his new bride. In 1949, he opened his own watch repair and jewellery business in Uxbridge, ON which he operated until he retired in 1986. Lorne had two children, was very active in the community and was a member of Uxbridge Legion Branch 170 for 40 years. Lorne passed away on September 29, 1990 ANDREWS, Frederick A. Frederick was born on December 4, 1919 in Walsall, England. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on January 6, 1942 and served with the 4th Princess Louise Dragoon Guards and the Royal Canadian Infantry Corps during World War II. Frederick was killed in action on December 17, 1944 in Villanova, Italy.
