Military Service Recognition Book

1 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND July 2015 As the 29th Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, I am pleased to recognize the worthy endeavours of the Royal Canadian Legion Ontario Command and the publication of the Military Service Recognition Book. When one thinks of community organizations in our country, the Royal Canadian Legion (RCL) is a group that invariably comes to mind. In our province over 400 branches comprise the Ontario Command, and Legion Halls, often the hubs of civic social life, are a part of the landscape in our villages, towns and cities. The RCL remains a preeminent advocate of veterans and their families, supporting their needs through a variety of services and programs. I make particular note of the efforts made by the Ontario Command in the area of veteran homelessness. The Military Service Recognition Book is an initiative that was first introduced in 2014 in our province. I understand the goal of the publication is to document all personnel who served or are serving in the Canadian military with ties to Ontario. This is the second volume, and all the stories you will read have been submitted by families, friends and volunteers. As The Queen’s representative in our province, I congratulate the Ontario Command and all those who have contributed to this important work of remembrance. Elizabeth Dowdeswell
