33 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BARKWELL, Dave O. Dave was born on February 20, 1933 in Bruce County, Huron Township, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in October 1957 and served as an air frame technician with No. 426 Squadron. He was discharged in October 1962 and went on to work in various fields in Toronto. Dave was very involved in Whitby Legion Branch 112 for 51 years. BARTLEY, Melbourne W. Melbourne was born on March 5, 1922 in Dyers Bay, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on November 8, 1941 and served with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps in England, France, Belgium, and Germany as a dispatch rider. In Holland, he had two motorcycles shot out from under him. In March 1945, he signed up to go to Japan but the war ended and he was discharged. He was awarded the 1939-45 Star. Melbourne has been a member of Hepworth Shallow Lake Legion Branch 586 for 69 years. BARTLETT, Donald Donald was born on October 16, 1927 in Highland Park, Michigan, USA. After high school, he became an apprentice pharmacist in Windsor, also joining the reserve army in 1947 and serving with the Essex Scottish Regiment. When he entered the University of Toronto, he also transferred to the Infantry Corps in the Canadian Officers’ Training Corps. When he graduated, he entered the community pharmacy practice until 1961 when he joined the Federal Government Service as a drug control auditor/inspector. He was promoted to Chief of the Inspection Service Division of the Bureau of Dangerous Drugs in Ottawa in 1973. He retired in 1986 and re-entered the community pharmacy in Ottawa and retiring for good in 1997. Donald has been a member of Westboro Legion Branch 480.
