37 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BEAL, Ronald F. Ronald was born on April 5, 1921 in Toronto, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on September 9, 1939. He served with the Royal Regiment of Canada in Iceland, England, and France during World War II. He was taken prisoner of war in August 1942 as a result of the Dieppe raid and was held for 33 months. He was discharged in June 1945 after which he went to work for the Federal Government. He was awarded the Queen’s Jubilee Medal. In 1946, Ronald joined the Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada as a bugler. BEAN, Roy Roy was born on November 3, 1922 in Listowel, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on February 10, 1942 and served in the United Kingdom and central Europe. He was mentioned in dispatches and awarded a Service Medal. Roy has been a member of Listowel Legion Branch 259 for 67 years. BEALE, James A. James was born on April 16, 1923 in Ottawa, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on October 29, 1942 and served with the 550 Bomber Command at North Killingholme, England, flying over 30 sorties and was awarded a DFC. He was discharged on September 22, 1945 and joined the Royal Canadian Air Force again in November 1946. During his post-war service, he was an aero engine technician and changed to flight engineer in 1948 and was involved in the Korean Air Lift. He had some impressive passengers including Queen Elizabeth, Churchill and Prime Minister St. Laurent, Pearson and Diefenbaker. He retired as a Warrant Officer in 1973 and remained a civilian employee in Trenton until 1987. He was a member of Trenton Legion Branch 110 for 20 years. James passed away on July 19, 2013.
