65 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CAMPBELL, Colin John “Jack” Jack was born on January 14, 1927 in Toronto, ON to William John Campbell and Ilva Hermione Austin. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in January 1944. The government needed infantry replacements in Europe so Jack received a 30-day paid leave and was drafted into the Army service. He was trained in infantry CIC Rainbow Division. At the end of his advanced training he was on draft for Europe when the Germans surrendered. He was then sent to Camp Barriefield in Kingston for American arms and methods training and was attached to the Royal Canadian Regiment. He was discharged from the Air Force in October 1944 and from the Army in December 1945. Jack has been a member of Bruce Mines Legion Branch 211 for ten years. CARD, Lawrence David Laurence was born on October 24, 1919 in Chapleau, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on October 26, 1941 and served with the Canadian Railway Corps in England, Holland, Belgium, and Germany. He was a member of Ontario Command Legion Branch 5 for 50 years. Laurence passed away on November 21, 2002. CAMPBELL, Henry J. Henry was born in Hunters Mountain, Cape Breton, NS on October 17, 1933. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on March 1, 1954 and served with the Canadian Guards, Royal Canadian Regiment. He served in Soest, Germany from 1957-59 and in Cyprus from 1956-66. He rebadged to Royal Canadian Regiment in 1973. Henry retired with the rank of Warrant Officer in 1975. He was awarded the Special Service Medal, the Peace Keeping Medal, the Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of Confederation, and the Canadian Forces Decoration. He married Jean in 1956 and had two children. After his discharge in 1975, he worked as front store manager at Rowans IDA Drug Store in Pembroke, ON for 17 years. He was an active member of Pembroke Legion Branch 72 for 43 years and served on Branch Executive and as Branch President. Henry was also Branch, District and Provincial Public Relations Officer and as a member on Dominion Command PR Committee.
