69 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CATTO, Norval Norval was born on January 22, 1920 in Tiverton, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on September 22, 1942 and served in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe during World War II. He was discharged on February 8, 1946. After the war, he married and had four children. He has been a member of Tiverton Ferris Legion Branch 430 for 19 years. Norval passed away on September 13, 1965. CHADWICK, William H. William was born in Londonderry, Northern Ireland on July 8, 1923. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on October 21, 1942 and served with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals in England, France, Belgium, Germany, and Holland during World War II. He intercepted code messages from the German forces and relayed them to Bletchley Park. They were later told that one message they relayed was a huge coup that greatly helped the troops. Following his discharge in 1946, he received the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star and the Canadian Voluntary Service Medal with Clasp. After the war, he resumed his studies at the University of Toronto completing his P.Eng. He attended the 50th Anniversary celebrations in Apeldoorn, Holland in 1995. He was a member of Wilson Legion Branch 527 for 15 years. William passed away on April 28, 2005. CHADDOCK, Frederick T. H. Frederick was born in Staffordshire, England on November 27, 1886. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army in June 1916 and served with the 228th Canadian Infantry Battalion and the 6th Battalion of the Canadian Railway Troops in England. He received his discharge on April 11, 1919 and he became post master in Madawaska, ON. He was a member of Barry’s Bay Legion Branch 406 for over 25 years. Frederick passed away in January 1968.
