73 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CHRISTIE, Robert Samuel Leslie Robert was born on July 24, 1922 in Desboro, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on October 30, 1942 and served with No. 166 Squadron overseas during World War II. At the end of the war they made several trips to drop food for the Dutch people as well as missions to bring prisoners of war home. Following his discharge on October 10, 1945, he worked as a bookkeeper at the Ford Garage for about 25 years after which he ran a farm until his retirement in 1980. He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defense Medal, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. A Life Member of Chesley Legion Branch 14 for 52 years, he also served as Secretary Treasurer. Robert passed away on March 2, 1998. CHURCH, Jeff C. Jeff was born on April 20, 1968 in Orillia, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army in August 1989 and served with the Lord Strathcona’s Horse. He did tours in Bosnia, Cambodia and Afghanistan as a peacekeeper and his last tour was in Afghanistan in 2002. Jeff and his family live in Ottawa, ON where he is a Master Warrant Officer in the Intelligence Branch. CHRISTIE, Wallace E. “Wally” Wally was born in Baccaro, NS on October 12, 1917. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on April 14, 1941 and served with the 2nd Heavy Ack-Ack Regiment before being transferred to the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps. He drove a transport truck in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany during World War II. Wally was attached to the Royal Canadian Engineers, the Lincoln and Welland Regiment and the Canadian Provost Corps transporting prisoners of war. He was discharged on January 14, 1946 and returned to the Ottawa Valley where he was employed by the Atomic Energy of Canada for 33 years. Wally has been a member of Pembroke Legion Branch 72 for 65 years.
