81 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND COBB, Audrey M. Audrey was born in Saint John, NB on July 15, 1926. She enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1943 and served as a clerk with the Royal Canadian Air Force Women’s Division during World War II. Fresh out of high school, she was swept off her feet by a young Englishman training in the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan in Moncton, NB and got married to him in the same year as she was discharged, in 1945. Audrey passed away on January 18, 1994. COBDEN, John L. John was born in Leighton Buzzard, England on May 30, 1887. He immigrated to Canada in 1907 with his wife and first born child. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on November 26, 1915 and served in the Cold Stream Guards in France and England during World War I. He was discharged on September 20, 1918. After the war, he returned to Canada and worked as a police constable on the Brantford Police Force for many years. Once retired and a widower, John moved to Florida, United States, where he lived until he passed away on January 27, 1969. COBB, Edward A. Edward was born in Little Gringley, England on September 5, 1921. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941. He was first rejected for air crew because of slight damage to his heart resulting from rheumatic fever as a child. Thus, he first trained in ground crew at Oakham, Rutland, England but with the loss of so many air crews during the Battle of Britain, he finally got accepted into air crew training, which he received in Canada as part of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. Edward received his wings as a navigator pilot in a Mosquito, one of the fastest operational aircraft at the time. He served in the Middle East and Burma during World War II. He was discharged in 1945. He was a member of Hamilton Legion Branch 163. Edward passed away on May 16, 1986.
