115 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CROWE, Vernon W. Vernon was born on February 26, 1924 in Orillia, ON. He enlisted in the Army on March 17, 1943. He received his basic training at Camp No. 26 in Orillia and continued his training at Camp Borden. He served with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders and the Army Medical Corps in England, France and Belgium during World War II. He was sent to No. 10 Canadian Field Hospital in France, and then transferred to No. 2 Canadian General Hospital in Ghent until sailing home on the Mauretania. He was discharged on March 7, 1946. He was married for 62 years and raised five children. He retired from Canada Post after 33 years of service. He was a member of Orillia Legion Branch 34 for 65 years. Vernon passed away on April 17, 2013. CUDDY, Alfred M. “Mac” Mac was born on October 23, 1919 in Adelaide Township, ON. In 1940, he joined the Canadian Officers Training Corps and after completing his training in May 1942, he enlisted in the Canadian Army as an Officer Cadet. He was posted to the Royal Canadian Artillery in Petawawa, ON and assigned to C Battery. In July 1943, Mac deployed overseas and served with the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps in England. He trained on tanks and assorted terrain vehicles. He was honourably discharged in September 1946 at the rank of Captain and took a position with a Veterans Land Act as a Settlement Supervisor responsible for purchases of land, livestock and equipment for veterans. He founded Cuddy Turkey Farms in Strathroy which became the world’s largest supplier of turkey poults and hatching eggs. Mac passed away on October 18, 2006. CUBBERLEY, James H. James was born on October 25, 1916 in Acton, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army in 1943. He served with the Hastings and Price Edward Regiment in Italy and Holland during World War II. He was discharged in 1946. After the war, he worked at the St. Marys Cement Plant until he passed away. James passed away on December 30, 1951.
