119 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND DAMUDE, Brett D. Brett was born in London Ontario 23 January 1981. He enrolled in the Canadian Forces as a Mobile Support Equipment Operator (MSE OP) on 2 September 2005. After completing his basic training at CFB Borden Ontario, and further trades training at Meaford Ontario and Wainwright Alberta he was then posted to 2 Service Battalion in Petawawa Ontario. Brett is an Afghanistan war veteran having completed a tour Feb-Jul 2007. As a trucker he travelled over dangerous routes to deliver many supplies and ammo to the Canadian soldiers at Forward Operating Bases in Afghanistan. His decorations include the General Campaign Star (ISAF) Afghanistan. Brett was was honourably discharged on 7 June 7 2012 at the rank of Corporal. He is the son of Doug and Maria Damude who are also Canadian Forces veterans. DAMUDE, Maria L. Maria was born in S. Jorge Azores Portugal in 1953. She enrolled into the Canadian Armed Forces 1 December 1972, London Ontario. After basic training at CFRS Cornwallis NS she joined the Navy as an Operations Plotter stationed in Shelburne NS. In 1975 Maria reclassified to Administrative Clerk and served at CFB Shearwater, RZHQ Atlantic, CFB London, CFB Calgary, NDHQ Ottawa and CFB Esquimalt serving all elements of the Canadian Forces. Decorations include SSM Alert, Canada’s 125th Anniversary Medal, Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal and the Canadian Forces Decoration and Clasp. Having completed a tour at CFS Alert NWT in 1987, she literally served on all three Canadian coasts. After over 22 years she retired as a Warrant Officer in July 1995. She started in the Navy, wore an Army uniform and finished with the Navy (CFB Esquimalt). She is a member of Legion Branch 116 in Strathroy Ontario and has held numerous chairman positions including President. DAMUDE, Douglas J. Doug was born in Niagara Falls ON in 1953. He enrolled in the Canadian Forces 5 July 1971 as an Infantryman at age 17. He completed basic training at CFRS Cornwallis NS and was awarded both the Marksmanship Trophy and Commandants Shield for Best Recruit. Served with 1 RCR London prior to reclassifying to Administrative Clerk in 1975, Doug served at CFB Halifax, 1 RCR London, 1 SVC BN Calgary, OMDHQ and DGAEM Ottawa. He completed a number of attached postings such as CFS Alert NWT, CCUNME2, CCUNCYP, CCUNDOF Golan Heights. He finished his career serving on board Navy destroyers HMCS Huron, HMCS Yukon and HMCS Algonquin. Decorations include SSM Alert, CF Peacekeeping Medal, UNME2, UNCYP, UNDOF, Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal and the Canadian Forces Decoration and Clasp. Retired in July 1995 as a Warrant Officer after 25 years of distinguished service. Doug is a member of Legion Branch 116 Strathroy Ontario where he has held numerous chairman positions.
