123 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND DAVIS, James C. James was born in Dillard, Georgia, United States on September 2, 1927. He enlisted in the United States Air Force on October 9, 1946. He started his career in the Air Weather Service as a Chief Weather Observer and as a Weather Equipment Operator flying routine Weather and Hurricane Reconnaissance missions. He also served with the United States Air Force Nuclear Detection Agency as a Special Equipment Operator. He served in Japan, Bermuda, Easter Island and the United States. He was discharged on May 1, 1973. He received 10 service medals which included the United States Air Force Commendation Medal. After retiring from the United States Air Force, he began a second career as a Food and Beverage Manager with the Niagara Parks Commission as Restaurant Manager at the Queenston Heights Restaurant. James has been a member of Talbot Trail Legion Branch 613 for 13 years. DAY, Ragna M. Ragna was born on October 14, 1918 in Orillia, ON. She enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in September 1943. She served with the Royal Canadian Air Force Women’s Division during World War II. While in the service, Ragna competed in the base bowling competitions and won the championship. She was discharged in September 1945. She joined Slave Lake Legion Branch 110 while she and her husband lived there. On her return to Gravenhurst, Ragna joined Harry Wray Legion Branch 302. DAVIS, Melville A. D. Melville was born on August 26, 1890 in Tara, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army in July 1916. He served with the 1st Kings Royal Rifles in France during World War I. He was injured in the Battle of Ypres and had his leg amputated below the knee. He received the Military Cross. Melville was killed in action on May 28, 1918 and is buried in Layton Cemetery in Blackpool, England.
