151 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND EMMERSON, W. George George was born on April 22, 1922 in Port Perry, ON. He enlisted in the Army on July 27, 1942. He served in the Royal Canadian Dental Corps and transferred to Military Transport and was sent to the Beaches of Normandy while the city of Caen was being blasted by artillery and aircrafts. He served in Canada, England, France, Belgium and Holland during World War II. He was discharged on March 25, 1946. After the war, he became a partner with his father in the general insurance agency business that the father founded in 1917 and today George’s son owns the business. George has been a member of Port Perry Legion Branch 419 for 62 years. EVERETS, Roy Stewart Roy was born on January 16, 1939 in Brantford, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1955. Able Seaman Everets served as a communications signalman and as a frogman/diver in underwater demolitions, pipe playing and salvage mission for the United States Navy. He did tours in Africa, England and the Caribbean. He was discharged in 1960 and returned to Waterford where he sailed tug boats on the great lakes as well as diver for gas wells. He was a member of Waterford Legion Branch 123 for 20 years. Roy passed away on December 23, 2010. EPPS, Emerson R. Emerson was born on February 12, 1921 in Welland, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army in 1942. He served with the 2nd and 10th Dragoons before being transferred to the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. He went to Europe with the Ordinance Corps in Radio and Drafting until D-Day. He was discharged in 1946. Emerson has since returned three times to Holland to take part in the Veterans Celebration of Holland’s Liberation, with his last visit being in May 2005.
