157 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND FITZSIMMONS, J. Douglas Douglas was born on July 22, 1924 in Toronto, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on April 30, 1944. He served in the Netherlands during World War II. Douglas was discharged on July 3, 1945. FODEN, Lesli W. Lesli was born on July 11, 1911 in Toronto, Ontario. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1939. Flight Sergeant Foden was an aircraft mechanic during World War II. For his military service Lesli was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and the Defence Medal. After the war, he returned to Kapuskasing to begin working for KimberlyClark and retired there after more than 35 years of service. Lesli passed away on May 20, 1997. FLEURY, John G. John was born in Westville, NS on April 27, 1919. He enlisted in the Army on September 2, 1939. He served with B Company, Pictou Highlanders in the United Kingdom, Continental Europe and the Central Mediterranean area during World War II. He was discharged on October 30, 1945. He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, the War Medal 1939-45, the Defence Medal, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. He was a member of St. Marys Legion Branch 236. John passed away on February 13, 2011.
