161 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND FRASER, Benoit Benoit was born in Sainte-Anne-de-la-Poquatièrre, QC on February 25, 1920. He enlisted in the Army on April 17, 1941. He served with the Lincoln and Welland Regiment in Canada, the United Kingdom, Central Mediterranean area and Continental Europe during World War II. Bombardier Fraser was discharged on November 15, 1945. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the 1939-45 Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, and the Defence Medal. Ben took it upon himself to build a cenotaph in honour of his close friend Armand Marquis who was killed in Holland. He financed the entire project. He was a member of Kapuskasing Legion Branch 85 for over 50 years. Benoit passed away on August 19, 2003. FREE, Max W. Max was born on November 18, 1920 in Seymour Township, ON. He enlisted in the Army in January 1940. He served with the 14th Field Regiment in Canada, England, France and Belgium during World War II. On the morning of D-Day, Max’s regiment supported the landing troops firing from off shore. Moving inland, after the initial landings, Max reported that he was shot at from behind many times. He later stated that he thought some of those people did not want to be liberated. Max was discharged in November 1944. He was a dedicated member of Harry Brown V.C. Legion Branch 497 for 50 years. Max passed away on October 14, 1995. FRASER, Frank T. Frank was born in Montreal, QC on April 5, 1894. He enlisted in the Army on September 23, 1914. He served with the 17th Battalion in France and England during World War I. Sergeant Fraser was discharged on January 31, 1918. He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal on October 6, 1916 while in the hospital recovering from the wounds he sustained during the battle of the Somme at Moquet Farm. During World War II, he was an ambulance driver for the Red Cross in England. Frank passed away on February 17, 1956.
