177 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND GLOVER, Alexander K. Alexander was born on June 24, 1915 in Madoc Township, ON to Phillip and Charlotte Glover. He enlisted in the Army on July 19, 1940. He served with the 47th Battalion, 5th Canadian Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment, 5th Canadian Armoured Division in England, Italy and the Netherlands during World War II. He was discharged in September 1945. He studied to become a plumber and worked in this field until retirement in 1977. He married Win Phillips in August 1946. They built their own home and raised five children. Alexander passed away on November 28, 1995. GOLZ, Hans-Surgen G. Hans was born in Werblitz, Soldin, Germany on July 16, 1940. He enlisted in the Army in November 1961. He received his training at Camp Borden and served with the Perth Regiment of Canada. He was an avid supporter of the Legion for many years and served in a wide variety of positions at St. Marys Legion Branch 236, including President and Past President, and is a Life Member. In 2013 Hans was awarded the Diamond Jubilee Medal in recognition of his untiring support of the Legion. GLOVER, Winfred A. “Fred” Fred was born on January 4, 1890 in Madoc Township, Ontario to Alex and Cynthia Glover. He taught in public schools before enlisting in the Army on December 28, 1915. He served with the 155th Battalion and 21st Battalion in France and Belgium during World War I. He was promoted in the field to Sergeant in April 1918. Fred was killed in action by enemy machine gun fire on August 26, 1918.
