179 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND GORMAN (McMANUS), Nellie T. Nellie was born on May 6, 1924 in Russell, MB. She enlisted in the Army in August 1944. After receiving her basic training, she was assigned to the Medical Inspection Room in Camp and worked with the Medical Doctors. She served with the Canadian Women’s Army Corps during World War II. She was discharged in March 1946. Nellie has been an active member of Harry Wray Legion Branch 302 for 48 years and has served in many executive positions as well as Branch President. GOWING, Ken B. Ken was born on April 17, 1931 in Listowel, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on January 13, 1951. He served in Canada and the Far East. He was awarded the Korean Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and the Canadian Forces Decoration Korean Service Badge. Ken has been a member of Major McKeever Legion Branch 259 for 23 years. GORNIAK, Ed A. Ed was born on September 8, 1967 in Kitchener, ON. He enlisted in the Army on September 10, 1985. He served with the 8th Canadian Hussars and the Royal Canadian Dragoons. Trooper Gorniak eventually rose to the rank of Sergeant with the Royal Canadian Dragoons. Originally assigned to the Reconnaissance Squadron, he later transitioned to the Sabre (Tank) Squadron where he served on the Leopard Tank. He was a member of the last Canadian tank squadron to see service in Germany before being withdrawn to Canada after the Cold War ended. Ed also saw service with the Canadian NATO Forces in both Bosnia and Kosovo. Among other awards he is a recipient of the Canadian Forces Decoration for long service and good conduct. Ed has been a member of Fred Gies Legion Branch 50 for 8 years and has been the Branch’s Sergeant-at-Arms.
