185 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND GRAHAM, Russell G. Russell was born on April 7, 1941 in Chesley, ON. He enlisted in the Army on August 22, 1960. He served with Royal Canadian Signal Corps, Communications and Electronics Branch in Canada, Germany, Cyprus and Lebanon. He became a paratrooper in 1963 actively parachuting for seven years. He was in Montreal for the FLQ Crisis. In 1966, he was a member of the motorcycle team touring Canada for Centennial year 67. He did a six months tour in Cyprus in 1972 and was posted to Lahr, Germany in 1973-77 and in Lebanon in 1978 for six months. He was discharged on October 6, 1989. Russell has been a member of Tara Legion Branch 383 for 20 years. GRANT, Ronald G. Ronald was born in Alloway, Scotland on December 14, 1923. He enlisted in the British Army in 1941. He served with the Long Range Desert Group (LRDG), a reconnaissance and raiding unit. Those chosen to serve in this Group were typically energetic, innovative, self-reliant, physically and mentally tough and able to live and fight in seclusion in the Libyan Desert. LRDG was a secret organization and on deactivation members were constrained by the Official Secrets Act to reveal nothing of their wartime activities for the rest of their lives. Ronald was a signalman and had advanced training in many types of radios, line and wireless/telegraphy. He was also trained in Cyphers, ski and mountain warfare, demolitions and as a parachutist. He was a member of Y Patrol. He was hospitalized twice during his service. He was discharged in August 1945. In 1947, Ronald immigrated to Toronto, ON. His army telegraphy skills enabled him to get employment with Regio Credit Company which gave him many contacts and the Toronto Stock Exchange. GRANSDEN, Howard Howard was born on January 19, 1896 in Paisley, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on August 24, 1915. He served with the 7th Battalion, Royal Canadian Infantry Corps. Howard was killed in action on August 29, 1918 in France and is buried in Faubourg-D’Amiens Cemetery, Arras, Pas-deCalais, France.
