193 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND GRIFFIN, Arthur Kent Arthur was born on February 8, 1893. He enlisted in the Army. He was wounded in Russia during World War I. After the war he graduated from Oxford University and married in England. He was the head of the YMCA in Lodz, Poland. He returned to Canada where he was a professor of classics in King’s University in Halifax, NS. GRIFFIN, Edward Edward was born in Nine Partners, Duchess County, New York, United States in 1764 to Richard and Mary (Smith) Griffin. He served as Lieutenant with the 4th Lincoln Militia Regiment during the War of 181214. He married Debbie Wardell and had eight children. He remarried to Mary Lounsbury and had four more children. Edward passed away on August 13, 1862 in Smithville, ON. GRIFFIN, Ebenezer Culver Ebenezer was born on February 16, 1800 in Smithville, ON to Smith and Eleanor (Culver) Griffin. He served in the 8th Regiment of Gore Militia. He married Eliza Kent, daughter of Captain William Kent in 1821. In 1823 he bought property, in what is now Waterdown, ON and built a sawmill, flour mill, woolen mill and carried on a mercantile business. He surveyed a village site and induced other businessmen to settle there, founding Waterdown. He was a magistrate and held a commission in the militia.
