35 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BAKER, Edward R. Edward was born on July 3, 1935 in Toronto, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army in June 1953 and served with the Royal Canadian Signal corps. He was discharged in 1956. He married and had three children. Edward was a steamfitter by trade and retired from the North York Board of Education. Edward has been an active member of Sir Sam Hughes Legion Branch 67 and Highland Creek Legion Branch 258 for 33 years. BALL, Frank Frank was born in Bristol, England on May 29, 1918. He enlisted in the British Army in 1939 and was trained to become a tank driver/operator/gunner attaining the rank of Trooper. He was stationed on the English Channel Coast and North Africa with the 44th Royal Tank Regimen, Royal Armoured Corps. One of Frank’s specific jobs was to liaison for the commanding officer. He was involved in numerous battles in North Africa and was taken prisoner of war on June 1, 1942. He was taken to Italy and Germany. He was discharged on September 20, 1945 and was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the African Star, the 1939-45 War Medal, the Territorial Medal, and the Lapel Pin for long service and medical discharge. While living in Toronto, Frank was employed as a chemical lab worker, did clerical work with the Blue Cross, and did clerical work with Workers Compensation. He also worked for the Ford Motor Company as a data processor in Oakville and retired in 1980. Frank was a member of Tara Legion Branch 383 for 31 years before he passed away in 2015. BALL, Earl R. Earl was born on September 5, 1928 in Blanchard Township, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on May 18, 1951 and served as a Private in the Korean War. He was discharged on July 10, 1953. Awarded the UN Service Medal. After the war, he returned home to St. Marys and worked for 15 years at Maxwell’s St. Marys and at Delong Scovill Limited for another 9 years. He was a member of St. Marys Legion Branch 236. Earl passed away on October 24, 1974.
